PCCI STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT ARROYO’S DECISION TO RUN FOR CONGRESS
Amid calls for the business community to issue a position on the filing of certificate of candidacy by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to seek a congressional seat in the 2010 elections, PCCI maintains that it is a non issue to the business community. PCCI is more concerned and focused on maintaining a conducive and competitive investment climate that allows the private sector to function as effective engines of economic development.
The President’s decision is a personal choice contained within the bounds of the country’s democratic exercise. PCCI believes that any legal challenges to this decision should be made with proper representation at the proper forum.
Where propriety has become an issue in this instance, at the end of the day, the voters of the 2nd district of Pampanga will place the judgment on the merits of her decision.
PCCI believes that further discussion or debate on this issue will just exacerbate, if not derail the current efforts by both the government and private sector in concretely addressing the challenges of the global recession and allowing the economy to function effectively for the benefit of our citizenry.
