MASSACRE IN MINDANAO
STATEMENT BY THE SPOKESMAN
OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AND EUROPEAN AFFAIRS
(Paris, November 24, 2009)

France condemns in the strongest terms the heinous massacre perpetrated yesterday in the Philippine province of Maguindanao, which, according to the latest reports, has reached a total of forty-six victims, mostly women and journalists.

It expresses its sincere condolences to the families of victims, and assures the Philippine authorities of its complete solidarity and of its trust that those responsible for this unspeakable massacre are effectively prosecuted, arrested, tried and convicted.

As the Philippine people will appoint a new president in May, it is essential that all conditions are met for a peaceful election campaign. /.
