MANILA — A reporter-anchorman of a radio station in Cagayan de Oro City was shot by unidentified gunmen at around 8 p.m. today, PinoyPress has learned.
Nilo Labares, a longtime reporter and anchorman of Radio Mindanao Network-DXCC, a leading radio station in Cagayan de Oro City, is now in critical condition and undergoing surgery at a local hospital, according to Froilan Gallardo, a colleague and friend.
Labares is one of that city’s most popular radio journalists. He is the second journalist to survive an attack so far this year. On Feb. 28, Ronaldo Doong, a broadcaster in Digos City, survived an ambush when the weapon of his would-be assassin jammed.
On Feb. 23, Ernesto Rollin, also a broadcaster in Misamis Occidental, was shot dead by assassins — the first journalist to have been murdered in the Philippines this year. The country is considered one of the most dangerous countries int the world for journalists. (pinoypress.net)
