I am from New York city and a tourist. I’ve been in the Philippines for more than a month and I have enjoyed visiting wonderful sights in exotic places in northern Mindanao, like Camiguin Island. I wish to thank the friendly and kind people of the Philippines for the warm welcome they gave me throughout my visit.
However, I write this letter primarily to seek the assistance of government and police authorities regarding my unfortunate and frustrating experience at the start of my vacation here.
I arrived in Manila via Philippine Airlines on Dec. 11, 2007 at around 12:30 a.m. from the JFK Airport in New York City. There was a frustratingly long delay at the immigration counters and two hours elapsed before we got our luggage, and I discovered later on that my four watches (one gold Pulsar masonic watch and three Timex silver watches) had been stolen. Can the police and the airport officials please investigate this theft which I’m sure some other tourists have also experienced? Also, why the inexcusable delay at the immigration counters?
Does the Centennial Airport’s luggage-handling area have cameras to monitor security? If so, can the authorities check what happened to my watches? One of the watches was a special gift and has a priceless sentimental value for me.
Anyway, it is not only to recover my four watches that I write this letter. I sincerely wish Philippine tourism to flourish, but this will happen only if government and police authorities in the country instill a culture of tourism, of honest service to tourists. Sabotaging the world-famous reputation of Filipino hospitality with these kinds of nefarious thefts and other crimes against tourists will only kill Philippine tourism.

what a shame, but what can we do? we are helpless even in our own country. government and its law enforcers are high in power. evil power in this ‘christian’ nation where money and greed are the gods.
