“Leftists and political activists are not the only targets of the Arroyo regime’s political repression. Even former allies and those who served its administration have become targets of political repression.” This was the statement made by the human right alliance Karapatan as it joined the rally for good government today in Ayala Avenue.
According to Karapatan, the abduction of Rodolfo Lozada, Jr. and threats on the lives of the family of ousted Speaker of the House of Representatives Jose De Venecia are proof that there everyone is fair game for the Arroyo government. It will stop at nothing and respect no one in order to remain in power and continue plundering the national coffers.
“It is terrifying that former allies of Arroyo have also become targets and even more terrifying that extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearance continue to be committed against critics of the Arroyo regime’s corruption, repression and puppetry to the US government,” said Karapatan. In its documentation, Karapatan said there are already 13 victims of extrajudicial killings and 2 victims of enforced disappearance since the start of 2008.
Still, according to the human rights group, “It is clear that the Arroyo regime is terrorizing the Filipino people. However, it is laudable that more and more Filipinos are standing up against the kleptocracy and terrorism of the Arroyo regime.”###
