Ibon Survey: Most Filipinos Want Arroyo to Step Down Due to Corruption

PUBLISHED ON February 15, 2008 AT 9:24 AM

Recent corruption scandals besetting the Arroyo administration have led most Filipinos to call for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to step down, according to the results of the latest IBON survey.

Asked if they were aware of calls made recently by members of the Church and other sectoral groups for Pres. Arroyo to resign from office and face corruption charges leveled against her, 75% of the total 1,503 survey respondents said yes.

Of these, 77.4% said they agreed with such call to step down.

Various interfaith and sectoral groups such as Solidarity Philippines, Concerned Citizens Group, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, among others, have called for a rejection of what they called as Pres. Arroyo’s morally bankrupt government.

The IBON nationwide survey was conducted from January 7 to 14, 2008, with 1,503 respondents. It has a margin of error of plus or minus three percent.

Below is the tabulation of results of the respondents’ perception of the Church and sectoral groups’ call for Pres. Arroyo to step down due to corruption allegations against her administration.

I want to step down our president to her position because she did not do right for the sake of every people. Because she do a cheating election where she is still the president so that Filipino people declaimed a protest to step down for her position.

  8. richelle retis III-A Says:

I think Mrs.President should vacate her position as a leader of this country because she did not handle the government as well as her countrymen effectively. If many people are against to her leadership I think she better step down for the sake of the majority.

  9. Sherlene Mae T. Pallan BSIT 3-A Says:

For me, if she will continue of what she’s doing right now in handling our government, our country will not achieve the main goal which is improving and developing our economy.

  10. daisy Lyn S. Salazar, BSIT III-A Says:

Pres. GMA is no longer an effective president..Because there is no progression that happens to our country, instead we are the one that is said to be a poor country now.. And that is because of too much corruption of our leaders(especially PGMA), so that I think she must step down in order to recover our government and economy…

  11. mariethecat Says:

A lot of effort is exerted in EDSA DOS to oust a corrupt Estrada. Yet, we replaced him with a more corrupt President. My officemate said, “Nagkamali ata tayo sa pagsuporta dun sa Edsa Dos. If we only knew…”

Do not GLORIFY EVIL!!! OUST GLORIA!
Tara tena, pagtyagaan na lang natin si Noli De Castro…ahihi.

  12. Angelo de Jesus Says:

All of you are stupid!! PGMA did her best to restore the damages the recent presidents have done to the country! Be very ashamed of yourselves! You all resort agad sa Rally and Protests! Show evidences first before doing any of this foolishness! BE MATURE EVERYONE! Pinapakita niyo lang lahat sakin na wala kayong pinag-aralan!

  13. Alex dela Paz Says:

This comment is address to Mr. Angelo de Jesus. your comment about how we are going to deal with the present situation ,by letting the law prevail and do justice as you quoted the Philippine Constitution is not being used to deal with such situation. In Principle you might be right. then you mentioned evidences…well the statement made by Mr. Lozada are part and partial already of a process to summon these people involved in this issue, yet the govt under the leadership of Mrs. Arroyo refused to cooperate and keeps on using lots of excuses and political tactics to
avoid the questioning of the senate. My very concern here is , why avoid and keep on denying with this process being done by the senate which is just a preliminary hearing in aid of legislation. it seems that this leadership has no morale values and kept on maligning our human race.
If Gloria is true to what she said that at the very moment she learned/heard of a certain anomaly in this ZTE transaction, she cancelled the contract. But that is not the point, the thing here now is why she didnt investigate the case and she kept on hiding it till such time thatother officials from the govt learned about it. she should have the moral obligation to have it investigated yet she chose to do nothing and now pretends to do something since this is now in public. I guess you should be the one to ask yourself why your are not ashame to say this words that you just wrote. Your insulting your fellowmen and you are saying that they are not educated and you are! Pardon me but you should look at your self of how big dumb you are compared to the little fellowmen who only want to hear and see the truth. if re telling the truth, then why should they be worried? the truth will set you free

  14. angel de dios Says:

First and foremost I do not believe Jun Lozada at all. It is clear he is being used by the opposition as well as GMAs sworn enemies to exploit the current situation and working hard to oust her from office but they will not succeed because GOD knows the TRUTH and so I am praying to the Lord to HEAR me as I voice my complaint to protect GMA from the threat of the enemy as well as hide her from the conspiracy of the wicked..from that noisy crowd of evildoers and encourage each other with their evil plans like the venom of a snake, they are corrupt and their ways are vile. All day long they twist her words and they are always plotting to harm her. Please hear my prayer Oh GOD and listen to the words of my mouth. Let evil recoil on those who slander GMA. In your might my Lord make mthem wander about and bring them down, for mthe sins in their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in theirn pride, for the curses and lies they utter, consume them them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Please GOD in your faithfulness destroy them, then men will say “Surely the righteous still are rewarded, surely there is GOD who judges the earth”. AMEN

  15. concern citizen Says:

i am not for the ousting of President Arroyo.but i am seeking for truth and justice.we are not sure of what will happen if Gloria would step down.we doesn’t know if we can really make a better country if she step down.yes.she is corrupt.she cheated.and all.but let us just cooperate with ourselves, help each other, and create the unity among ourselves.

  16. desperate for an answer Says:

I believe that the president might have done something wrong… but then again, we are all still unclear of what the REAL problem is… Although I certainly believe that there’s something wrong going on due to certain evidences and the not-so-satisfying results we are getting these days… but who are we to jusge the president without knowing her truly… I honestly hated the Opposition because indtead of working with the president for the betterment of our country, they tend to find loopholes that will bring the president down and all of these hardships that we Filipinos are experiencing is because of the people’s thirst for power and wealth.. I just wish that God will help us make the right decision this time…
