PHILIPPINE ARMY CHIEF Lieutenant General Alexander B. Yano issued his official statement to the members of the Defense Press Corps in a press conference at the PA Museum earlier today amidst the current issue besetting the government.
“As members of the AFP, the Philippine Army soldiers will remain apolitical and non-partisan. We will strictly adhere to the chain of command and we will continue to support the constitutional processes. We will not succumb to any pressure from anti-government groups out to destabilize the government,” he said.
Lt. Gen. Yano has just arrived from a trip to Davao City to preside the turnover of command of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division based in Camp Panacan. Former 10th ID’s Commander Maj. Gen. Ernesto Boac reached his mandatory retirement age of 56 on Feb. 15 and relinquished his command to Brig. Gen. Antonio Amodia as General Officer-in-Charge.
“I have faith that our soldiers will not waver on their professionalism, honor, and duty. Our soldiers are not and will not be an instrument of any politically motivated exercises. Our soldiers have learned their lessons well over the past incidents – that they were taken advantaged of by some individuals for their own selfish motives and self-vested interests,” according to Lt. Gen. Yano.
He further emphasized that the Philippine Army organization will strictly impose the laws that govern military discipline. Any soldier who defies authority becomes an outlaw and a disgrace to his uniform. Such soldiers will be dealt with drastically.
In conclusion, Lt. Gen. Yano assured the Army’s continuing support to the duly constituted authorities and will remain focused to its mission.
“Let me reiterate that as members of Team ARMY, and TEAM AFP, we will remain committed to achieve one common goal – and that is PEACE for our country.”
The press conference which lasted for almost an hour was highlighted by the official statement of the Army Chief and an open forum that was participated in by the members of the DPC. #
