DTI Highlights Value of IP Creation at 2008 e-Services Awards

PUBLISHED ON February 9, 2008 AT 12:39 PM

(Manila, Philippines, February 8, 2008) — Finalists in the annual e-Services Awards include companies developing homegrown ATM systems, training applications, and back office systems according to Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions executive director Felicitas Agoncillo-Reyes. An international panel of judges will decide which companies will receive this year’s awards.

According to Agoncillo-Reyes, the e-Services awards are intended to highlight the value of IP creation on the growth of the Philippine offshoring and outsourcing (O&O) industry. The awards program is produced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and is an integral component of the 8th e-Services Global Sourcing Conference and Exhibition.

The two-day conference and exhibition takes place February 11-12, 2008 at the SMX Convention Center, while the awarding ceremonies for the e-Services Awards will be held on February 12, 2006, at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

The e-Services awards recognize intellectual property (IP) development in 10 categories: Animation and Game Development, Back Office BPO, Contact Center, Software Development and Maintenance, and Transcription. Awards include Outstanding Client Application of the Year, Outstanding Consumer Application of the Year, Groundbreaking Technology of the Year, and Most Progressive Homegrown Company of the Year.

Finalists for the Animation and Game Development Sector are Media Farm’s Sun Life VUL e-Learning Program and Tech Factors Incorporated’s Tekkids Courseware. For the Back Office BPO and Call Center sector, the finalists are Transprocure Corporation and People Support (Phils.) Corporation, respectively. And for the Transcription sector, Total Transcription Solutions, Inc.’s Online On-The-Job Simulation and EMR Global Corporation’s Electronic Medical Record are both nominated.

For the Software Development and Maintenance sector, finalists include: Advance World Systems’ ATM System Development for a major bank in Japan; Primesoft Philippines, Inc.’s design of an online unit customization portal; E.D.S. Innoventions, Inc.’s DMCI Home Inventory Control and Sales Monitoring Solution; IT Groups, Inc.’s Metro Gas Digital Services; Primary Software Development Corporation’s Primary software 2006i for Trading and Distribution; ACLT Computing Incorporated’s Prime Human Resource Information System and Prime Free Online Payroll; Advance World Systems’ Test Management System; Mannasoft Technology Corporation’s Ecommunic8; Morph Labs Inc.’s Morph helpME; Navigator systems, Inc.’s Ur HR Partner; Next IX, Inc.’s NEXT I.X. INF; N-Pax Cebu’s Total Systems Analyzer.

This year’s “Most Progressive Homegrown Company of the Year” award in the Software Development and Maintenance sector is also highly contested with nominees such as ACLT Computing Incorporated, Exist Global and Pointwest Technologies.

The international board of judges includes Tholons Southeast Asia president Paul Santos; Headstrong country manager Nora Terrado; ICCP Venture Partners, Inc. director Gerry Valenciano; Philippine Trade and Investment Center – New York, USA trade officer Josephine Romero; and XMG, Inc. research manager Benedict Ferrer.

The e-Services Awards was established in 2001 to encourage local information and communication technology (ICT) companies to push the limits of their creativity and innovation through healthy competition. Open to all Philippine-based IT companies, the awards program showcases innovative products and services.

“Through the years, e-Services has served as a venue for local ICT innovators and entrepreneurs to promote themselves in the global market,” said Agoncillo-Reyes, who concurrently services as DTI assistant secretary.

Free At Last. Pastor Berlin Guerrero of the National Council of Churches of the Philippines, shown above with wife Mylene, was released after 15 months in police detention. He had been abducted and went missing for days before the police came out to say that he was arrested on a murder charge, which his family and colleagues said had been fabricated.
