Philippines: Greenpeace to oppose construction of Iloilo coal plant

Deputy Minority Leader and Bayan Muna Rep. Satur C. Ocampo today strongly an assassination attempt on Bayan Muna regional officer Hope Hervilla in Iloilo, yesterday, November 26. He warned state security forces that they would be held responsible should any harm were inflicted on Hervilla.

The lawmaker quoted Hervilla as saying in a brief report to his office: “We’re lucky to break out of the assassins’ casing, through the help of Congressman Jun-jun and Governor Niel Tupas. They sent escorts to our house for us to get out because vehicles are waiting at all exit points.”

Hervilla has been given protection at the provincial capitol since yesterday.

Ocampo said Hervilla earned the ire of the military due to her active involvement in the search for Luisa Posa-Dominado and Nilo Arado, the two abducted leaders in Panay region last April.

“The military has all the motives and means to plan such an attempt on Hervilla’s life. We warn them against harming her in any way. We will hold the Armed Forces directly responsible and accountable should anything happen to Hope Hervilla,” Ocampo said. #
