Why Globe Broadband Sucks Big Time

PUBLISHED ON November 23, 2007 AT 10:48 AM

By Carlos H. Conde

For one whole year, I was stuck with Bayantel’s DSL service. It gave me frequent, almost regular, headaches — mainly slow and intermittent connection. I was paying good money for Bayantel’s rather expensive service (1,699 pesos for a 784 kpbs connection). I couldn’t wait, as you can imagine, for the one-year lock-in period to end.

And at about the same time that I was planning to abandon Bayantel, somebody dropped a flyer for Globe Broadband into my mailbox offering the ideal DSL plans. Having subscribed to Globe DSL a few years back and was generally happy with that experience, I decided to switch to Globe Broadband.

But the moment the agent told me that the plan I wanted would not be available in my neighborhood, a suspicion crept inside me. But I ignored it because, hey, this was Globe, the second-largest telecommunications company in the Philippines.

The agent told me that the plan I wanted (3 mbps Internet only for 1,995 pesos, which I consider terrific, given what I was paying Bayantel for 784 kbps) would not be available in my area in Quezon City. He offered instead the 2 mbps plan for the same amount but with a landline. Although I don’t need an additional landline, I agreed because the agent told me I can always upgrade later.

Sounds good. So bye-bye Bayantel, hello Globe Broadband!

The second problem cropped up immediately afterward. You see, Globe Broadband promises to convert, for free, the modems for plans 2 mbps and 3 mbps into Wi-Fi modems, which would essentially turn your house into a Wi-Fi zone, which was also one of the reasons why I switched to Globe. We have two computers in the house, and for the second computer to share my DSL connection would be perfect. I called up Globe and asked that my modem be converted to a Wi-Fi modem.

The customer service people at Globe’s call center (171 or 9198888) didn’t have any idea what I was talking about. I talked to two of them and both kept insisting that Wi-Fi only works in Wi-Fi hotspots. I told them that was not what Globe promised. Apparently, they mistook the free Wi-Fi modem comeon in my plan for Globe’s Worldpass, the company’s Wi-Fi service (subscribers like myself are entitled to free 120 minutes of Worldpass Wi-Fi access a month). I made clear to them the difference between the Wi-Fi modem and Worldpass, that I know exactly what Worldpass is and I know exactly what a Wi-Fi modem is. They were stumped — and referred me to a supposedly technical guy, who was also as clueless and was only sort of helpful when he told me to personally go to a Globelines Center. I did and the guy behind the counter told me that, indeed, I could have a Wi-Fi modem. The only problem was, he said, they ran out of such a modem. Great.

(While at this, why couldn’t the guys at customer service know this? This information was something call centers can handle perfectly well, but Globe’s couldn’t and so I had to go to Globelines at North Edsa and brave the horrendous traffic jams there and endure the endless search for a parking space.)

Then, barely two weeks after Globe installed what I thought was my Internet salvation, my Globe Broadband DSL connection began to act up. The connection was intermittent. The dial tone of the Globelines phone disappeared every so often. Naturally, I called up Globe’s excellent customer service and they promised to deal with my problem in 24 hours. Somebody, a guy who reeked with the strong and unbelievably offensive smell of cigarettes, came to my house but only to tell me that the problem was being taken care of and that my nightmare would be over soon.

But the problem persisted for about four days. A cheerful guy then called to happily inform me that my connection troubles were over. He assured me that Globe takes these things seriously.

at least it’s not only me who has the same problem with globelines broadband…

globelines broadband connection is slow, their technical support grouo needs a lot of training, their system needs upgrading.

it’s disappointing, it’s sad, it’s frustrating. booo to globelines broadband!

  3. Bien Says:

    Globe really sucks, A LOT!
I have the intermittent connection problem since i subscribed to them last July 2007,and it became worse and worse as months have passed.

I’m averaging 10-15 god damn disconnections per day, and i’m reporting my problem almost every day…
But until now,January 2008, nothing has changed.

I even experienced 5(Five) Days of no connection, and the only problem is MODEM HANG! Oh my GOD, this is an example of how stupid GLOBE is…

  4. jeff Says:

bro i have the same problem with globe bro as per the first 3 post here i also have the same problem, i currently try to disconnect with htem but its already taking a monthfor them to disconnect. i stop paying for 4 months now since for 4 months i cant properly used the internet.screw them… pldt gives good service though… will try smart now, got any comments for smart?

  5. Ed Says:

dudes, yeah right…i’ve had the same probs with my connection…tech support don’t eeven know what they’re talking about, feels like they had been reading a script when trying to troubleshoot..well, apparently you’ll be getting same probs if you have subscribed to the wireless system..really sucks

  6. Ed Says:

by the way, tried smart…they have a stable connection but internet slow…try going into satellite internet, the one dreamsat offers, but i think it is more expensive

  7. carlo Says:

putang ina na globe dsl yan! system restoration daw!meron bang systen restoration na 6 months!they must admit they suck big time!talong talo sila sa pldt dsl(hindi ako bilib sa smartbro)!

  8. James Says:

    Better PLDT DSL

  9. louie Says:

I was a smartbro user. Im so dissapointed ng mawalan na ko tuluyan ng signal sa smartbro. So I decided to change and upgrade to Globe BroadBand. May 22, 2008 nakabitan ako Internet and Telephone with 1mbps. Right after ng pag alis ng technician hindi na ko makapag surf. Ng itawag ko sa Globe. The following day may pumuntang technician. Sabi ng technician may problema daw ang modem na ginagamit ko. Turbo Link. Ginamit nya ung old modem na speedstream 4200. Nag work naman. Ng itawag ko sa Globe. Ang findings nila is intermittent connection. May pupunta daw uling technician. Nahihirapan akong mag log in sa yahoo mail at hotmail. Everytime mag lolog in ako sa kahit anong site. Nag hahang ako. Is that really what they called intermittent connection? Nahihirapan akong mag surf using globe. Napagalaman ko rin na kulang sa training ung mga technicians na pinapadala nila. Halos di nila naiintindihan ginagawa nila.

  10. wenjo Says:

share the same problem with globe dsl,, for 5 days i have no internet connection,,, their cs persons are like reading troubleshooting manual,, i’ve explained that the problem is their server cannot see my modem and they kept on saying for me to check my physical connection,, hey do you really know what you’re saying?!!! ATTENTION GLOBE MANAGEMENT… it’s about time you give your customer a services worth of what we are paying for!!!! you all sucks…. and last your system restoration is very questionable????

  11. vogs Says:

damn globe.. i didnt know this problem will occur my 1st 2monthz i guess is best good downloading no dc no lag.. the hell happen in my last 2monthz of paying is went to the horrible scenario 5days of always disconnecting every 5mins i guess the 4 lights will be 3 then the 4light will show and suck its so slow.. damn it..cant even open my frenster. cant even play onlinegames grrrr what a pain in a ass.. right now im saying this i got DC.. damn i hate this.. this is not what i want. i want good connection. i already call there CS what else you can hear?? an automatic operator saying all blah blah blah. btw they say that the pasig and cavite had a connection problem well oh my god.. im not in that area im in bulacan!!!! what is d hell s that?? those two area are far away from my home.. and i got there problem too?? oh cmon!!

  12. maki Says:

yeah, techies had gone here like 7 or more times to check on my system, and it’s useless. they haven’t done any changes. i find it strange though, everytime i was scheduled for a tech visit, my internet would be ok, and would continue being ok for 8-42 hrs, but after that, back to normal. dc every hr, or worse, 5 times in 10 mins! what the hell. full of crappy service. everytime i called their customer service, ironic how the waiting tune would be about how they “pursue their promises to their customers”

    OH REALLY NOW!? HECK. LIES.

i hope globe gets sued for the kind of service they give to their customers. we NEVER GET WHAT WE PAY FOR.

  13. tony Says:

Yeah, me too having intermittent connections. I am a new user (about 2 mos) and all I can say is GLOBE broadband sucks………….. beware!!!!!

  14. meriadoc28 Says:

switch to cable internet guys! its way better than globe or smart bro. i own a smart bro too but i dont use it all the time coz the connection is slow.

  15. Kamoteng Kahoy Says:

The worst DSL provider ever for me. I’ve tried Bayantel and PLDT.. Bayantel tech support is the fastest, but their speed is slow. PLDT is more reliable and consistent with download/upload speeds. Mas mahal pero worth it.

Globe DSL pinaka-TAE sa buong Pinas.

  16. The boss of all bosses Says:

    to

  17. JB EUDELA Says:

i live in QC. katipunan to be exact. i have been using globe’s broadband service for months. recently nawala siya dahil umulan ng malakas. i called their hotline and gave me and assurance that technical people will be there in 24hrs….. its been 10 days!!!!!!! 10 days of loss income. do have rebates???? puro na lang pera pera pera! gumawa naman kayo ng maayos na trabaho!

  18. caloy Says:

    hi jb,
you can actually demand for a rebate from globe. in my case, my problem got solved when i pestered and pestered globe. pinagmumura ko na’t lahat. my patience was wearing thin but i pressed on, even calling not just their customer service reps but the heads of their public-affairs department. what globe eventually did, after days of testing and testing my line at home, was install another line to my house. i used the new line ever since i had problem with the old line but about a week ago, the new line went dead, so i’m back to my old line which has been working fine.

anyway, as a result of my pestering, they gave me rebates and even upgraded my modem to a wifi one (which i was entitled to by the way, based on my plan).

so far, i have not been having problems with my globelines and dsl. i decided to stick with them because of the one-year contract. if my connection is problem-free up to my time my contract ends, i’ll probably stick with globe. the speed is actually okay for now. and customer service and tech support have been very accomodating — but i guess that’s only because i raised hell and promised them a public-relations nightmare if they didn’t fix my connection.

    caloy

  19. Mariposa Says:

So you can say all those things over and over again! Globe just sucks so bad…and they are so good at sucking!

I’m passed the point of yelling and begging…without internet I’m like dead at home…

And I can’t understand why after calling them so MANY times and I have no connection at all, they always tell me everytime I call back for a follow-up that they’re sorry that my connection is intermittent…wtf?!

They are breeding lies there…and just the lousiest and the most CRAPtastic service I’ve ever dealt with in my life!

I swear, I’m going to BLOG about this whole thing and link here and link to all other out there who are sharing the pains….but to do that, I need my internet! Pffftttt!!!

P.S. How could they talk about a lock-out contract when it’s them not being able to provide the service! And I hear you, I don’t need rebates…I need internet!

  20. Gadget Geek Says:

Yeah they really suck!! Imagine this, since our smartbro 384kbps connection was converted because Globe offered to waive the last 2 months of our bill so we could switch to their Globe Wired 1mb connection, the more frustrating it became. Globe’s wired 1mb connection is a “piss off”.. it is so slow that when you open a site in mozilla it just keeps on loading and loading until you freak out because of an undeniably slow or no connection at all. And take note, it’s 1mb wired and not wireless like Smartbro’s 384kbps. WTF!!!!

  21. Mavinlark Says:

Indeed. Globe Broadband is probably the worst internet provider I’ve had– even dial-up prepaid cards don’t suck this much. If it’s not intermittent connection, then you’ll have no sync at all. Or if you’re lucky, it’s ridiculously slow connections. Worse, whenever you call their ‘tech’ support, they’ll just ask you to do the same thing: turn off this, turn on that, wait for blah seconds, try to observe if it works and give us another call if it happens again. Unless you really pester them (read: scream, nag, shout) to do something ASAP, then they’ll just keep on giving you empty promises.

  22. jean Says:

yes, i too have the same experience as you guys… i purchased mine august 2007…first month it was okay..during the second and third connection was intermittent, landphone has difficulty getting signal…january 2008, i reported the problem, until now they never fixed the problem but they continuously bill me…last may 24 my landline was totally discinnected due to unsettled accounts…the agents i talked too repeatedly informed me that no service no pay… it’s been 6 months now that i never saw any single repairman to visit my place and check everything but they still have the nerve to collect dues…kapal talaga!!!

  23. marj Says:

a day after being told that a tech crew was coming over to set the modem up, yung clueless call center girl binigay na sa akin yung number ng tech support dahil hindi raw sinasagot ang calls niya. so i called up their tech service and they hung the phone up on me. how’s that for dedication? to avoid future horrors and a possible stroke, i pulled out of it na. diyos ko, i shudder to think what subsrcibers to globelines have to go through daily.

  24. John Says:

My globe connection is so slow pictures usually never load to the pages that I open. It’s like blind browsing…how fun!

  25. LOLO MO GLOBE Says:

  26. Marky Mark Says:

yeah! we all have the same problem with this fucking GLOBE broadband!!!

I’m an ONLINE GAMER. I play online game 15-24hrs a day! and this GLOBE BROADBAND gives me headache!!!

I changed my ISP because of their promise na mas maganda at mas mabilis ang internet nila but it’s all a lie!

maybe i should just find another ISP na maganda…

TO ALL: BAN GLOBE BROADBAND! PINAKA-TAENG ISP SA LAHAT!!! PARA WALA NG DUMAGDAG SA MGA TAONG SASAKIT ANG ULO AT MAGKAKA-PROBLEMA SA BULOK NA INTERNET CONNECTION NILA!!!

  31. bon from novaliches Says:

Buti nga sayo sir nagamit mo kahit papano at mayroon tech service guy na pumunta sa house mo para ayusin. Sa kin worst yung nangyari. Aug 8, 2008 kinabit, kinabukasan, wala na agad connection. I kept calling their tech support everyday until today. Hindi pa nila inaayos ang connection ko. Imagine, 1 day ko lang sya nagamit. Lahat ng CSR nila sinigawan ko na!!!. Pati yung supervisor sinigawan ko. Kulang nalang mag mura ko sa knila… Ang nakakainis pa, ang kakapal ng mukha nila para padalhan ako ng billing statement asking me to pay P1500. Eh ang plan ko is only P1295 a month. B/S talaga sila! almost 2 weeks na kong walang connection. Mabuti nalang hindi ko pa pinacut yun Smart Bro ko kaya nakakapag internet pa ko…

  32. Pammy Says:

I feel your pain… I’m having troubles with my globe visibility din, don’t know what to do, its sad I saved up for this, but its NOT WORKING. now i still have to go to internet cafe/s again…

  33. Wilson Says:

oH MY GOODNESS… WHAT’S HAPPENNING TO MY INTERNET CONNECTION… WAHHHHHHHHHHHH….. bAKIT NAWAWALA…TATAWAG NGA AKO SA GLOBE CUSTOMER SERVICE… WAHHHHHHHHH WALA AKONG DIAL TONE… GANYAN BA TALAGA ANG GLOBE LAHAT POSIBLE… PARANG IMPOSIBLE??? PAMBIHIRA NAMAN SERBISYO NIYO BAKIT GANUN MAAWA NAMAN KAYO SA MGA SUBSCRIBER NIYO VERY POOOR SERVICE… SANA NAMAN MAGING ATTENTIVE KAYO(GLOBE) SA LAHAT NG MGA COMPLAINTS SAINYO UMAKSYON NAMAN KAYO… NAKAKADISMAYA SERBISYO NIYO…

  34. Aileen Says:

Same with me. sobrang bagal 1 mb nila as in parang internet shop sa kanto ng subdivision namin. Minsan wala rin dial tone and di ma-open yung mga sites as in limited pati multiply. What the hell!! DSL ba inaplayan ko o dial up. Kainis. It must be the system. Tech needs training. Globe sucks!!

  35. Kaes Says:

Hey you know what, i recieved the same suspicous claim when talking with my local Globe agent. Said “that service isnt available in your area”(Paranaque). And recommended i subscribe to the 2Mbps+landline plan.

    I have 3 complaints:

    1. Why is my connection capped at 1.5Mps Upload and download rate total. (DSL uses one ‘line’ that shares download and upload traffic).

    2. When i burst internet traffic from idle to heavy loads my modem disconnects and too often i spend 10-20mins turning my modem on and off before i actually begin to recieve ‘internet traffic’(this problem is often linked with ISPs that put a cap on your connection(check complaint1). This is terrible for online games, esecially MMO’s.

    3. Their service goes down way too often, not just in my area but whole cities at a time and anywhere from 1 day to a whole week. Fucking annoying considering the pesos they charge for their services.

Sum up Globe DSL. They give you less than what they advertise, their internet connection and uptime is unsatisfactory. YOU DONT GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Do yourself a favor and go with PLDT DSL. They have similar issues as far as complaint#2 but thats a technical problem with your modem, Ask for the newest available modem when applying for PLDT. I plan on trying out that skycable broadband but they arent available in my area.

  36. rhai Says:

Hi guys, actually i was planning to subscribe at globe broadband and my main objective is to have internet just to play MMO(specifically Granado Espada). The things is im from Davao, August this year they are starting to advertise and make campaigns for the internet product i dun know if bago plng cla or matagal na nag implement dito sa Davao, is it worth to take the risk or maybe ill end up just like what you guys has?
