Annual event to be attended by chief executives of 11 capitals and major cities
(Manila, Philippines, November 15, 2007) — Manila will host this year’s plenary meeting of the Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC21), announced the Metro Manila Development Authority today. The meeting is scheduled from November 25 to 28, 2007.
The ANMC21 is an international network of Asian capital and major cities whose objective is to undertake joint projects that address regional issues such as technological development, environmental countermeasures and industrial development. Member cities include Bangkok, Delhi, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Metro Manila, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo and Yangon.
Every year, ANMC21 holds a plenary meeting attended by mayors or governors of member cities. The meeting serves as a venue for the member cities to confer and agree on important administrative issues, hear progress or outcome reports on joint projects, and discuss policies and reports on special concerns. A working-level meeting is also held concurrently to examine practical administrative issues. The plenary meeting concludes with the drafting of a joint declaration. Last year’s meeting was hosted by Taipei.
This year’s meeting will be highlighted by discussions on regional travel and tourism promotion, crisis management, and regional health issues, as well as an exhibition featuring the different member cities. The plenary meeting will be held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, while the exhibition will be set up for public viewing at the SM Mall of Asia.
“We are very pleased to have been chosen as the host of the 6th ANMC21 Plenary Meeting,” said Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando. “This is an exciting opportunity for the country in general, and Metro Manila in particular, to showcase to the international community the progress that we’ve made towards becoming a world-class city.”
