FREE ANGIE IPONG
On May 11, 2005, six partylist representatives from the Gabriela Women’s Partylist, Bayan Muna and Anakpawis filed at the Lower House the House Resolution 795 seeking the Committee on Human Rights, Peace and Reconciliation to conduct a congressional probe of the human rights violations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Command and to looking into Angie’s case.
Meanwhile, Task Force Angie, composed of the organizations GABRIELA, Gabriela Women’s Partylist, Karapatan, Health Action for Human Rights and Promotion of Church People’s Response, held a picket-dialogue with the Commission on Human Rights and appealed to the Commission to probe the perpetrators for its culpability, look into the present condition of the victim in Pagadian City Jail and facilitate her immediate and unconditional release.
On May 17, representatives of the Task Force Free Angie and of the Commission on Human Rights headed by Commissioner Wilhelm Soriano visited Angie at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Compound in Lenienza, Pagadian City. With Commissioner Soriano were CHR Region IX Director Atty. Manuel Mamauag, Commissioner Cueto, Dr. Amata, and some of the CHR personnel coming from their sub-regional office in the city. Angie’s elder brother Mr. Apolonio Bisuña joined the group in behalf of the whole Bisuña family.
Most recently, through GABRIELA National Alliance of Women in the Philippines, Angie’s case was among the cases of human rights violations presented at the Permanent People’s Tribunal last March 2007. Last September, GABRIELA also presented Angie’s case to the United Nations Special Rapporteur Dr. Yakin Ertürk, who accepted the case for evaluation.
OUR DEMANDS:
1. Unconditional and immediate release of Angie Ipong based on humanitarian grounds. Drop false charges against her.
2. Immediate medical attention for Angie. She is a 63-year-old senior citizen who already suffered two mild heart attacks. Her prison conditions, cramped in a small jail cell with 16 other inmates, can only worsen her health.
3. Prosecution of the military men who sexually abused and tortured Angie.

I am thanking all those people who supported and helped my mother during her dark times when she was abducted by the CIDG and the military personnel. Im thanking you for helping her to be surfaced by the military after many days of experiencing hell in the hands of the military and being incommunicado. It was not really easy for me as her daughter especially when I knew that she was unmercifully tortured and also was sexually abused by those military demons.
Once again, Im asking you for your untireless support for my MOM in any form that you could give (financial, material or moral support) and be with us in our struggle for justice for my Mother and for all those victims of human rights violations done by the state. We are peace-loving and democratic people and we dont want more people to be victim of the human rights violation. Thank you and more power.
