Family of abducted girl mulls writ of amparo

On the abduction of 8-year old girl in Cebu by AFP:
“Writ of amparo being mulled by family and KMP against the military”

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the custodian of Army abduction victim are now mulling to file for a writ of amparo against the 78th Infantry Battalion, for forcibly taking and interrogating an eight year old peasant girl Nena (not her real name).

According to Ka Nick Abasolo, chairman of KMP-Cebu, “together with Nena’s aunt Liza Baldespiñosa and human rights lawyer Poch Cinco we were able to retrieve Nena last October 31 from the military but she was heavily traumatized and shows signs of brainwashing. We are now helping her and her family to cope with this situation and to hold accountable those who are responsible for this,”
“The AFP subjected her to intense questioning for several days; a child should never have undergone such an ordeal. But the military is indiscriminate on who they will terrorize next, it does not matter if it is a child, a woman, the elderly, even the mentally incapacitated suffer in their hands,” said Abasolo.
“The AFP should definitely be punished for this, they have robbed the child of her innocence and she would carry her psychological and emotional scars inflicted by them even in adulthood,” said Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general, KMP
“We hope that with the writ of amparo, and the upcoming writ of habeas data these types of cases of abductions and killings would be stopped by state agents who are targeting innocent civilians with their state sponsored terror,” ended Marbella.
Nena was on her way home after attending classes in Mag-alwa Elementary School last October 16 when 78th Infantry Battalion soldiers picked her up and brought to their detachment in the adjacent Barangay, Gaang. She was inhumanely subjected to tactical interrogation about the whereabouts of her parents whom they accused as NPA rebels. # # #
