Business magnate Manuel “Manny” Pangilinan will address the 33rd Philippine Business Conference & Expo organized by Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and will be held on October 24-26, 2007 at the Manila Hotel.
The renowned business leader will talk on Philippine Back in the Global Investments Radar the Philippine perspective. The developments in transportation, communication and information technology fronts have pave the way for the establishment of a truly integrated global economy. The Philippine has become a favored site for the manufacturing, services, and logistics needs of many international companies. The developments in global economic front have undoubtedly allowed the Philippines to establish itself as a vital component in the global chain.
Pangilinan was named as Chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the country’s dominant telecom company after serving as its President and CEO until February 2004. He also serves as Chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Landco Pacific Corporation, Pilipino Telephone Corporation, and Smart Communications, Incorporated, the largest mobile phone operator in the Philippines. He has been awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) for International Finance (1983), the Presidential Pamana ng Pilipino Award by the Office of the President of the Philippines (1996), Doctor of Humanities (honoris causa) by the San Beda College (2002), Best CEO in the Philippines by Institutional Investor (2004), CEO of the Year (Philippines) by Biz News Asia (2004), People of the Year by People Asia Magazine (2004) Distinguished World Class Businessman Award by the Association of Makati Industries, Inc. (2005), Man of the Year by BizNews Asia (2005), and Management Man of the Year by the Management Association of the Philippines (2005). In May 2006, the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines awarded him the Order of Lakandula, rank of a Komandante in recognition of his contributions to the country. He was awarded Honorary Doctorate in Humanities by the Xavier University in 2007.
Dubbed as the biggest business event of the year, the 33rd PBC&E features other components such as Trade Exposition, Business Matching, Break-out sessions and Awards. It will be attended by high-level government officials and decision-makers. Plenary topics include Prospects for a US$ 9Bn FDI in 2008; Investing in the Philippine Capital and Financial Market; PPP at Work in Tourism: Inspiring Success Stories in Tourism, PPP for Legislative Reform: An agenda for Development and Judicial Reforms. The conference will coincide with the National Competitive Summit that will happen on the 2nd day of the conference.
Meanwhile, the PCCI is calling for those interested communication technology companies to participate in the retail exhibition to easily market their products and services on the latest trend of technology and electronics.
