MANILA — Presidential appointees in government-sequestered corporations under the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) have been directed to submit their courtesy resignations not later than June 30.
The order is contained in a memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita on June 22, two days after the issuance of a circular directing presidential appointees in Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) and Government Financial Institutions (GFIs) to submit their courtesy resignations.
Ermita explained that the courtesy resignations were intended to give President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo a free hand in reorganizing the management of GOCCs, GFIs, and now, the government-sequestered companies.
In his regular press briefing in Malacaang this afternoon, Ermita said that out of 117 presidential appointees in GOCCs and GFIs, 115 have already submitted their courtesy resignations.
He added that all resignation letters would pass through a “search committee” which will evaluate the performance of the various firms and their officials, as well as determine who will be asked to stay, who will be put “on hold order” or whose appointments may have already lapsed.
Ermita said he has asked the help of members of the Cabinet in evaluating the resignation letters and to provide the search committee with a comprehensive recommendation on what action to take on the resignations.
“I gave out personal instructions to members of the Cabinet for them to submit to the OP (Office of the President) their own evaluation and assessment of the officials under the supervision of their departments which will serve as the basis of the recommendation of the search committee to the President,” he added.
